“It is important to diversify, so that when one arm is weak, the other arm will be strong”
The owner of a motor spares company and scrapyard, Fani started his business 2002 in the hopes of gaining stability both financially and in his life. When starting his business, the biggest challenges he faced were capital, premises and a shortage of skills in the sector.
In 2020, 2 in 1 Motor Spares and Exhaust was selected to receive learning and guiding (mentorship) through a business-development programme sponsored by Vergenoeg Mining Company. While on the programme which is powered by Raizcorp, Fani learned a great deal about running his business. “I was taught how to maintain the business environment in order to keep my customers satisfied consistently. I also learned about professionalism in business for the general day-to-day running,” Fani says.
Since being on the Vergenoeg programme, 2 in 1 Motor Spares and Exhaust has increased its profit and employed three additional staff members. Fani is still seeing growth. “I even managed to invest in property,” he adds.
His advice to other entrepreneurs? “Invest in fixed, immovable assets. It is also important to diversify, so that when one arm is weak, the other arm will be strong.”
“Thank you very much for raising my standard of knowledge in business. I will pass this knowledge on to my stakeholders, employees and peers. You have really helped me,” he concludes in a message of gratitude to his programme sponsors.
